The souls swarmed around the empty night air around him. Each dancing in its own rhythm against the gentle stroke of the wind. The soul themselves replicated the gust of the wind, copying the patterns in order to match the unique patterns of mother nature. Day and night had began blending together into unending hours of thought. The tree’s were changing. The once beautifully blooming leaves were now shriveling up and drifting slowly to the ground below. Not only was the season changing, but something on the island was too. There were parallel universes, the one of the living and that of the dead. Typically they could live perfectly divided in the same region and never worry about colliding. It was a week ago that Erebus began to notice the shift. The door that kept the two worlds divided was growing weak, and though Erebus couldn’t figure out why yet, he was still determined. Crouching down to the ground, Erebus continued to observe the soul that swarmed around him. They were simply waiting for his command, his approval of their freedom to the afterlife. Letting out a soft sigh, Erebus reached his hand out to barely tap the scythe that was neatly plunged int the ground. As his fingers barely made contact with the handle, all the soul swarmed into the blade of the scythe. He had been so focused that he hardly noticed the presence of another person. That was, until he looked up to see their eyes peering back at him.
The figure stood there for several seconds, just peering back at Erebus in complete silence,
until finally the figure took several steps forward. As the figure came from the shadows, Erebus smirked in slight relief. It was only his sister, Nyx. They had made some distance between them since the shift in balance of life and death. They both had gone their separate ways to see what clues they had gathered. Giving a gentle smile, Nyx approached her brother, reaching her hand out to him in a gesture to help him up to his feet. With the door of life and death rattling, they both were feeling the effects of not only the souls of this world, but that of the other side. Taking her hand, Erebus slowly rose to his feet. "What did you find?" Erebus voiced finally shattered the empty night air, and though he was trying to seem brace, Nyx could read the slight panic tone hidden deep within his words.
Reaching her hand out, a cloud of dust swarmed from her finger tips and began making images in the air around them. At first the dust seemed to swarm around in confusion, but in mere seconds it pulled itself together to mold a picture. The first picture it showed was two girls, one younger than the other, but still both seemed rather young comparably to Nyx and Erebus. Details of the two girls couldn't be made out, but the mere frame was enough to give Erebus an idea of what they were up against. The dust swarmed again, taking on a different image this time, a much more familiar image. The dust gathered into the frame of a large building. The building had great pillars holding it up, and for the most part seemed abandoned. It was the frame of the old Ghost Library. Then just as fast as the dust had made the image, it scattered into the air around them, leaving the air empty once more. Narrowing his eyes slightly, Erebus looked towards Nyx before reaching for his scythe. Grasping the handle in his hand, he tugged it from it's resting spot in the ground. "We need to call Ape, and the others before it becomes too late.."
