The air was crisp and chilly but had an oddly polluted sense to it, almost as though there was a shadow lingering over the beautiful island. Reni lifted a hand to her forehead, blocking rays of light as she peered out into the distance. According to a tour pamphlet that the woman had fished out from a trash bin, there was a temple around here somewhere. Reni wasn’t particularly religious, and she supposed that the original inhabitants of the island must have been long gone, so there wouldn’t be anyone to stop a nosy tourist who wished to snap a few photos. And even if there were any protests raised, Reni was confident in her ability to defend herself, even if she was perhaps a bit overly so.
The blonde closed her eyes and breathed in deeply, dropping her arms down to let them swing freely at her sides. This island was nothing like any other place she had been before, and over the course of nearly half a century, she had seen quite a bit. The Fae Realm was harsh and elegant, wild and charming, unpredictable and familiar. However, after spending most of her life here in the Human Realm, Reni had taken a liking to the strange, dystopian place. All of the emotions projected by humans were something that the woman hadn’t tired of even after seeing them countless times. Of course, she would never admit it.
Reni’s eyelids lifted back up, exposing dark irises that seemed cold despite their warm brown hue. She had come here to explore, so why was she standing around in the middle of nowhere, not even surrounded by a beautiful view? It must have been the strange feeling surrounding this place. Reni shook her head uncomfortably and set off at a brisk pace, her sturdy leather hiking boots crunching through the frozen leaves that littered the ground. The terrain here seemed to be even for the most part, which was strange since she couldn’t spot the temple anywhere. Reni continued to walk for a decent amount of time, striding around confidently until she realized with annoyance that she was in fact, completely lost. Her sense of direction had never been what could be considered even decent, although one of her human friends had absentmindedly had remarked that it seemed to be eerily immaculate, what with the way she always seemed to find her way to dead animals or people.
The woman narrowed her eyes and scanned the area. It was such an unnerving place to be; out of all the places she could have chosen, why did she pick such a dreary and almost eerie place? Although her Death Perception only allowed her to see very imminent deaths, Reni could nearly feel how much destruction had occurred on this island in the past. Perhaps not much had happened around where she currently was, which was a relief; wailing wasn’t exactly on the blonde’s to-do list at the moment. She didn’t quite feel like crying her eyes out, after all. Reni turned her attention back to the problem at hand. Where was that blasted temple? Had it been obliterated or something?
