The world had been spiralling for some time now. The darkness that once served Reast, the darkness that Reast once mastered was now lashing back. The darkness that once bowed to Reast command was now questioning her very morals, demanding an explanation on her ethics. Needles coursed through her patterned scars, sending a numbing sensation under the thin layer of skin that coated the interior of Reast. This was the purest form of betrayal. Betrayal it it's most natural state had to come from Reast herself. Not only had those around her damned her and declared her a monster of unstable variety but now it seemed that Reast has given up on herself. As the darkness began wrapping around her body, Reast felt as the cocoon shaped prison began constricting against her body. Why had everyone expected the worse from her? In the process of changing from monster to human, Reast had screwed up. Instead of feeling closer to humanity, Reast had taken a drastic turn. Since coming in contact with the unknown in Purgatory there had been a wall building between Reast and her Darkness. The communication between the two had been blocked leaving little to no support between the spiraling sides.
Lucee. The name rose from the shadows of her mind like a small glimmering candle. Lucee had been the individual to rescue Reast from the snake pit when Reast was the snakes. Lucee had been the one who could pull Reast back from the thickening black waters of darkness. Everything, despite logical reasoning, seemed to always come back to the young ascendant that Reast picked off the streets. The wrapping sensation was beginning to constrict blood flow to various important locations of her vessel. If Reast didn't find a way to snap out of her out of body state then she would surely die here. Death. The word seemed an infinite impossibility to Reast in any typical situation. Yet suddenly death didn’t seem to be such a threatening thought. Suddenly it seemed as though Reast and death stood before one another, no longer enemies. Much rather their encounter this time seemed to be that recollection. The meeting of an old friend that you hadn’t seen in some time. The silence between the two left a thickening fog in the air. While nothing was said out-loud, the glances shared between the two left nothing to be said. Neither looked away, and neither inched from the ground they stood. As the world around them fell into the very darkness that had been consuming Reast, a small smile began to flicker across her once trembling lips. While still not a word had been spoken, an agreement had come to terms. The darkness flooded the two tall standing figures, completely removing any form of sensory.
Flinging her hands out, Reast felt her fingernails tear against the cocoon that surrounded her. The sensory deprivation, the uncertainty of escape, it all put her in a panic. If there was ever a time that Reast was willing to fight for her own life, it was now.
