we are the keepers of their destiny
Is it any wonder why princes and kings are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings?
The misfit of the Roi family, the Phoenix. Despite the power that came with being a leach, the family wasn't that of an accepting bunch. When Rowan was a child, she was even excluded and damned for being of mixed blood. Rowans father was of the Roi blood line, but her mother was a human with the ability of amplifying. While her father and mother both plead the case that this would make Rowan only stronger, the rest of the Roi's didn't care. They would use Rowan as target practice, frequently lose her when they went out, and spoke ill of her when she would be directly beside them. But, that was how a mixed breed leach was treated, a phoenix on the other hand was said to be a cursed child. A child born of both pure Leach parents, yet a genetic malfunction causing their absorption ability to kill them at birth. While there was still much unknown on why, most theories are that the infants absorbing ability is too great when born so when they come in contact with other leaches, they take on way more abilities than their little infant vessel can withstand. To become the Phoenix though, the child will die at birth but the body will them deteriorate into ash. From that ash, the child will be reborn. Their abilities cannot be copied by a leach, nor can their their abilities be drained by a leach either. There is an immunity within the child, and this immunity seemed to be why Phoenixs were so disliked.
Amara. Rowan thought to herself as she now began approaching the library. The Rio family was destructive, cruel, and twisted in their methods but had they created the snake that Amara had become? This began to make Rowan question if the downfall of her family was even due to the hunters. Roi's were not kind, but they were certainly dangerous. They were trained to be strong, but to always think five moves ahead of your opponent. While their abilities were strong, their technical thinking and strategy planning could cause devastation of a catastrophic level.
Pressing one hand on the wooden door, Rowan placed her other carefully on the knife at her side. Pushing the door open, Rowan allowed Claire to enter first as she had asked. Claire would be the perfect shield for whatever Amara had planned, and Ian would have the brilliant mind to calculate exactly who Amara had collected. Then that would just leave Amara and Rowan, the last Roi's known to exist. Walking up the pathway, passed the dozens of book shelves, Rowan kept her eyes focused on the small framed girl before her. As much as Rowan hated to admit it, Bow had been right, Amara did look exactly as Rowan had as a child. They almost could have been mistaken as twins if it weren't for how they held themselves around others. "Amara." Rowan gave a gentle nod towards the girl before looking towards the other two who stood beside her. The girl she didn't recognize, but the man seemed fairly familiar. Wasn't he Rions brother? What was he doing here, and where was Rion? Observing the room a bit more, Amara also noticed the reapers passed out between two of the book cases, had this been how she manipulated the realms dimensions. Looking back to Amara once more, Rowan knew she couldn't fixate on such minor details. For now, all her focus had to remain on the task at hand, the child who had opened hell.
