Apsenniel gently held an orb of light above her palm, practicing her control over the Void and always thinking, wondering about how easily lives could be changed.
Four long months had passed since Erebus opened a portal to Promise Island. Four months since Ape first met the daughter she didn't know she'd had. Four months since she had last seen the Immortals island; the place that used to be her home. Four months since the war against the Hunters ended. Four months since Lucee turned into a Decroissant. Four months since Reast.. The light she held began to flicker then, momentarily halting Apsenniel's inner dialogue. She let out a long breath, collecting herself. Four months since Reast set herself and Lucee free from the Darkness. Four months since the two of them lost their lives. Apsenniel dropped her hand as the orb snuffed itself out, sighing.
The time had helped to ease the pain, but it was always the little things that brought it back to the surface. Today, it was the little blonde girl running passed in a fit of giggles. The days were becoming easier as of late, especially with Erebus and Vanya as her distractions. Apsenniel and Erebus had grown close, but Ape wasn't sure what exactly their relationship could be described as. He was here and there, gone when he and Nyx had a job to do, but always there when she needed comfort or a laugh. It was funny, really. Apsenniel was undead, and in a relationship with Death's aide. Who would have thought?
Her relationship with her daughter, Vanya, was anther story entirely. They had grown closer as well, though in a much different aspect. There were so many years that Apsenniel had to make up for and so much lost time, but a hole in her heart she had never noticed before was filled. The two Avariel Elves had so much in common, and their bond continued to grow with every moment they spent together.
Apsenniel was happier than she'd ever been, having Vanya and Erebus in her life. She frowned, slowly turning to view the scene she'd created in the Void. It was always a different scene; sometimes a meadow, other times the beach. Always outside at night, filled with orbs of light that shone like stars. This ability came to her while she was grieving, hiding away in the Void where she couldn't be reached; at least, not by most people. Ape was sure anyone who put their mind to it could find a way into her haven.
Stretching her arms to either side, Apsenniel pulled in a deep breath, holding it as she stepped forward and out of the Void. Dropping her arms, she released the breath shakily, once more turning in a circle to view her new setting. She stood in the living room of the home she and Vanya shared on Promise Island. Hally, the child Reader that Lu had hurt and Vanya had healed, was also staying with them until she chose to leave. Apsenniel knew that Hally was happy to have a place to call home, but it was obvious the child longed for something else; something Ape and Vanya couldn't provide her. Erebus and Nyx were also more than welcomed to visit and stay any time, which Apsenniel hoped they would continue to do.
Promise Island was slowly, but surely, becoming her home.
Maybe this time, she'd be able to keep it.
